Health BEAT Series: Everyday Mindfulness

Community Health Centres of Northumberland 99 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, Ontario

Join Chris Hill, Social Worker as he guides you on a journey through everyday mindfulness. He will discuss mindfulness based cognitive therapy and provide tips on how everyone can add a little mindfulness into their day.

Love Your Lentils – Diabetes Cooking Class

Community Health Centres of Northumberland 99 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, Ontario

Diabetes Cooking Workshops are hands-on cooking classes which are offered to those living with prediabetes, type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Each workshop will be conducted by a Registered Dietitian, who is also a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Health BEAT Series: More Than Food – How you eat is important too!

Join Adam our Community Dietitian this Nutrition Month to hear why healthy eating is about more than the foods you eat! Adam will touch base on such topics as how to be mindful and enjoy your food, the importance of eating meals with others and how to cook more often by involving others in the planning and preparation of meals.

Food Cupboard

Please Note: During this time the Food Cupboard is closed to onsite visits. Prearranged pick ups and deliveries of food baskets are still being offered to those in need in the Port Hope area. Home Alone Course

Community Health Centres of Northumberland 99 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, Ontario

This FREE 2.5 hour course will provide youth ages 10 to 14 with the skills and knowledge that will assist them in being confident about staying home alone. Through interactive games and activities participants will learn about how to stay safe in various situations and what to do in case of an emergency. (offered in July, August and over March Break)

Dance For Parkinsons

Community Health Centres of Northumberland 99 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, Ontario

This class integrates movement from ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary dance techniques to stretch and strengthen the body, improve posture and balance and engage the mind. Thinking like a dancer helps participants regain physical confidence in their own bodies. Classes are taught by experienced dance educators/dance artists. This class is also suitable for those living with MS, A.B.I and Stroke. Caregivers are encouraged to attend. April 1st to June 3rd | $60 for participants and $40 for caregivers | 10 week series

Falls Prevention

This class is offered through Community Care Northumberland. These classes are designed to work on strength and balance for seniors. These classes also include an educational component designed to help you decrease the negative effects and potential injuries associated with falls and near falls.

Women’s Book Club

Throughout the year we will meet to discuss the books of choice, and enjoy a cup of tea in a fun and positive space. Next meeting April 6th at 10am, we will be discussing the books Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate and Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

Health Beat Learning Series – Hospice Care- Ed’s House

Community Health Centres of Northumberland 99 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, Ontario

Join us on April 7th to learn more about Hospice Services from presenters Pam Stevenson and Allison Greer and from Ed’s House Denise Kearsey and Lynda Kay who will give you an update on the construction and a glimpse of the new building. Tuesday April 7th | 1pm to 2:30pm
