Volunteers

| Volunteers Build Strong Communities |
| Strong Communities Build a Better World |

Volunteers play a vital role at the Community Health Centres of Northumberland (CHCN). We value our volunteers and without their support and commitment we would not be able to offer the wide range of programs that we are able to offer to those living in Northumberland County.

The CHCN encourages individuals of all cultural backgrounds, life experiences and levels of education to consider volunteering with us. The CHCN offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities from assisting with our food cupboard, to preparing ready to go meals, helping with administrative duties as well as being a member of our Board of Directors or sitting on our Community Family Advisory Roundtable.

We aim to make all volunteer experiences a meaningful one. It’s important that you feel valued and gain or develop existing skills while pursuing your interests. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Centre please fill out a volunteer application form and drop it off at the Centre or email it to info@porthopechc.ca

You can pick up a form from the Centre or print one off from the link on the side.

Our vision is to engage more volunteers with meaningful opportunities and provide a space where volunteers can build connections and a sense of community. It is a place where volunteers come to feel valued, collaborate, develop skills and explore new learning opportunities.

Volunteer Process

  • Volunteers are required to fill out an application form, attend an interview, provide two references, submit a Criminal Record Check with a vulnerable sector check and complete CHCN orientation as well as volunteer job specific training.
  • A suitable placement will be determined once an interview has been completed.

Volunteer Recognition

CHCN believes that volunteers should receive “appropriate and meaningful” recognition on a regular basis and that recognition should be both formal (i.e. National Volunteer Week, Years of Service Recognition) and informal (Cards, staff support, light refreshments, feedback) in nature. The CHCN takes pride in recognizing volunteer’s years of service through annual volunteer recognition events and volunteer service awards.

Accessibility

As part of our ongoing commitment to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, The Community Health Centres of Northumberland will provide assistance to applicants who request accommodation throughout the recruitment process.
