The Community Health Centres of Northumberland (CHCN) is seeking passionate community members to join our volunteer Board of Directors for a 3-year term beginning Fall 2026. If you care about health equity, community well-being, and ensuring everyone has access to high-quality, person-centred care, we encourage you to apply.
About the Role of the Board
CHCN’s Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and governance to ensure the organization remains responsive to the needs of the community.
Board members:
- Help shape CHCN’s strategic direction and long-term vision
- Ensure accountability, financial stewardship, and organizational sustainability
- Champion health equity and community-centred care
- Represent the interests and experiences of the communities we serve
- Participate in board and committee discussions that support organizational success

Who We’re Looking For
We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. All interested community members are welcome to apply. We especially encourage applications from:
- People who identify as women
- Emerging and mid-career professionals
- Members of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities and other racialized groups
- Individuals with lived experience navigating health, social, or community services
- People who are passionate about advancing health equity and community health models
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or expertise in:
- Marketing, communications, or media
- Fundraising, philanthropy, or donor relations
- Legal, governance, risk management, or compliance
- Healthcare or community health
Preference will be given to individuals who live or work in Northumberland County.
Requirements
Board members are expected to:
- Serve a three-year term
- Attend Board meetings in person at our Port Hope location — approximately 9 meetings per year
- Serve on at least one Board committee, which meets regularly throughout the year
- Dedicate approximately 4–6 hours per month for meeting preparation, attendance, and committee participation

- A completed Board Director application
- A current résumé or curriculum vitae
- A brief statement outlining your interest in joining the Board and how your experiences, skills, or lived experiences would contribute to CHCN’s mission
Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview with members of the Board’s Governance/Nominating Committee.
