Virtual Programs

The Community Health Centres of Northumberland is now offering a number of virtual programs via Zoom and Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN).

If you are new to Zoom, you will find some links from TechCoaches to get you started below:

The following programs are now being offered virtually through Zoom or OTN:

Active Fit and Fun

Led by trained volunteers in a safe manner, Active, Fit & Fun is designed for community members age 55+ seeking to improve their strength, balance, and flexibility regardless of their current fitness level. Exercises can be done seated or standing.

Movement and Motion

Designed for community members age 55+, who are wishing to improve their balance and range of motion regardless of their current ability level. Join us virtually as we guide you through a gentle movement class to some music. The program will be led by trained volunteers, who ensure the program is run in a safe manner. Classes can be done seated or standing.

Gentle Yoga

Yoga instructor Ursula will guide you through a gentle yoga practice from the comfort of your own home. Yoga has many benefits such as increasing flexibility, improving breathing, helping with balance, and helping one to live a healthy and stress-free lifestyle. Participants of all fitness levels welcome.

Nordic Pole Walking – In Person

Come out and join our trained Nordic Pole Walking instructors as they take you on a 30-45 minute walk around the neighbourhood. Participants will be shown how to properly use the poles and will be taken through a series of warm-ups before starting the walk. Please bring your own poles if you have them. We have a few poles that can be borrowed for the duration of the program and will be sanitized before and after each class. Participants will also need to do a self-screening before attending a class.

Women’s Book Club – In Person

Join us as we explore different themes, topics, and adventures. This group meets the fourth Tuesday of every month on Zoom to discuss the book of choice. Participants will need to be screened before attending the session.

Women’s Social Teas

Join us from the comfort of your own home for our seasonal social teas. We will enjoy some fun games, chit chat, treats and of course tea. Space is limited as tea kits will be provided to participants before each virtual gathering.

Caregiver Support Group

Are you looking to connect with other caregivers? This support group meets the first and third Friday of every month and provides information, support and follow-up for active caregivers.

Home Alone Course

This FREE 2 hour virtual course will provide youth ages 10-14 with the skills and knowledge that will assist them in being confident about staying home alone. Through interactive games and activities participants will learn about how to stay safe in various situations and what to do in case of an emergency.

Community Dietitian Talks

Harvest Cooking – Join Adam as he explores a variety of dishes that will be inspired by whatever fresh produce is available from the fall harvest! We are sure that some of these recipes will be perfect to bring to the table for Thanksgiving dinner!

Just the Basics

Have you been recently diagnosed with prediabetes or diabetes? This workshop, now being done virtually over Zoom, includes a discussion of the basic facts about managing diabetes, healthy eating, and physical activity. You can participate in this workshop with a phone, tablet/iPad or computer.
