Registration now open for the next virtual conversation in the Northumberland PACE Speakers Series, ‘Why, What and How of Organ and Tissue Donation’ on Thursday, March 28 at 5:30 PM
NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Monday, March 11, 2024—The Northumberland PACE Speakers Series will host its second virtual conversation of 2024, ‘Why, What and How of Organ and Tissue Donation’ on Thursday, March 28 at 5:30 PM with guest speakers, Tiffany Lue and Rebecca Massecar, Registered Nurses, and Hospital Development Specialists with Trillium Gift of Life Network, part of Ontario Health.
Tiffany Lue is a Registered Nurse and Hospital Development Specialist with Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network [TGLN]). She has dedicated the last 12 years of her career to the field of organ donation and transplants.
Starting her nursing career at Toronto General Hospital, Tiffany was responsible for taking care of organ transplant recipients pre-and post-operatively. Spending time with the some of the sickest patients in Canada was a humbling and inspiring experience, as she learned about their transplant journeys.
Her passion for innovation in donation and transplant led Tiffany to receive a Master of Nursing and continue her career with Ontario Health (TGLN).
Since 2018, Tiffany has supported donation education and policymaking with the aim to improve donation processes throughout Ontario. In her current role, Tiffany supports patients and families as they generously give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
Rebecca Massecar is a Registered Nurse and Hospital Development Specialist with Ontario Health (TGLN).
In her role as a Registered Nurse, Rebecca gained valuable clinical experience at the bedside in a Medical and Palliative unit, while expanding her knowledge about the process of organ and tissue donation. Rebecca’s passion for leadership and education led her to complete a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2020.
In 2021, Rebecca transitioned into her role at Ontario Health (TGLN), where she supports several hospitals in Southwestern Ontario and their donation programs.
Rebecca’s favourite aspects of this role include working with hospitals as they support organ and tissue donors while providing education to health care teams and the public about donation.
Tiffany and Rebecca’s virtual discussion will explore important questions about tissue and organ donation, including “Why is organ and tissue important?” “Who can donate tissues or organs?” “What are the common misconceptions about organ and tissue donation?” and “If someone decides they want to be an organ and tissue donor, what is the next step?”
As is standard within the PACE Talk format, questions from the audience will also be addressed. These questions may be pre-submitted by emailing mbhargava@imcare.ca prior to March 28, 2024, or time permitting, posed live during the event itself.
Since 2018, The Northumberland PACE partners have been hosting free public education sessions on a broad range of health and wellness topics and have consistently drawn large groups of community members with a variety of questions and perspectives.
Lasting an hour in length, each PACE talk consists of a 30-minute talk, a 20-minute question-and-answer period with the guest speaker(s) and a short moderator summary.

Pre-registration is required, and space is limited to the first 300 registered attendees. This event is hosted through Zoom, and attendees are asked to login to the event 5 minutes prior to the start. About Northumberland PACE – A collaborative between community health-care providers and local residents interested in learning more and promoting health and wellness, PACE (which stands for Personalized Assessment and Change Education) is a TED Talks-inspired speakers’ series typically hosted (on a rotating basis) at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg and the Community Health Centres of Northumberland in Port Hope. Due to the physical distancing requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has moved to a virtual format, using Zoom. Northumberland Hills Hospital, the Northumberland Family Health Team, The Community Health Centres of Northumberland, internal medicine specialists IMCare, the NHH Foundation, the Ontario Health Team Northumberland (OHT-N) as well as local patients and caregivers are all represented on the 2022-23 PACE planning table, as is the Interactive Media Development – Film and Television Production program at Loyalist College, which has partnered with the team to support audio and visual recording and distribution. Talks are held monthly at 5:30 PM, typically on the third Thursday of the month. One hour in total, each talk consists of a 30-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute, interactive question and answer speaker/audience discussion and a short moderator summary to conclude. “Seats” are available free of charge, on a first-come, first reserved basis.
