Job Summary:
The Food Market Facilitator at the Community Health Centres of Northumberland (CHCN) will support our Food Security Program, ensuring increased access to nutritious food for community members facing socio-economic barriers. Working within CHCN’s Model of Health and Wellbeing, the Facilitator will help oversee the food market initiatives that align with our commitment to health equity, social justice, and community vitality. This role involves coordinating food distribution, fostering partnerships with local organizations, and supporting inclusive, barrier-free service delivery. The Food Market Facilitator will have strong organizational skills, a passion for food security, and a commitment to building a healthier, more connected community.
Service Responsibilities:
- Provide access for low-income populations to obtain healthy and nutritious food
- Expand established programs and services to meet the changing needs of the community. This role will play a significant role in:

- Helping run our Mobile Food Market to increase the number of individuals served by our organization
- Working with local farmers and food producers to offer high quality, local and nutrient dense foods for community members
- Supporting the Market at our Port Hope location.
- Seeking out and applying for grants and donations to supplement the program.
- Attend Food Cupboard Sessions as needed and provide support to the Community Dietician and volunteers
- Find/train volunteers to help ensure the delivery and long-term sustainability of the program by training them to run certain aspects of the program autonomously
- Support management of volunteers by maintaining positive volunteer relations,, gathering materials, coordinating tasks, and providing additional support as needed

- Communicates in a timely and positive manner with the appropriate manager regarding job content, specific objectives and personal performance. Identifies performance goals, objectives and learning needs.
- Seeks to identify, respond, and collaborate to resolve concerns in a timely manner, being open to different ideas and opportunities for innovation and quality improvement
- Collects and reports statistical (quantitative and qualitative) information as required
- Incorporates and contributes to the Centre’s efforts for service excellence and continuous quality improvement by identifying, implementing and evaluating standards, policies and practices to support best practices.
- Participates as a team member in staff functions: program planning, team and inter-team meetings, organizational staff meetings and team building
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Development:
- Maintains and develops professional competence through on-going professional development and stays current and aware of opportunities to implement new health promotion initiatives
- Participates in self-directed learning to ensure that practice remains relevant by attending professional conferences, e-learning and journal reviews
- Communicates with relevant professional groups to maintain professional linkages and professional support
Experience
Qualifications:
- Experience working with disenfranchised and vulnerable populations who have difficulty accessing health care and/or food
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
- Knowledge of the local community, the health sector including primary health care, and community health centres is an asset
- Safe food handling certificate is an asset
- Experience applying a health equity lens in community-based or food settings is considered an asset
- Ability to manage competing job demands and prioritize accordingly
- Experience working with volunteers is an asset
- Able to work flexible hours as required.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Work requires moderate physical effort including very frequent standing, walking, and lifting of materials
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required
- Police clearance with vulnerable sector search documentation will be required for employment
