The CHCN has an opening for a Communications Assistant. (Summer Contract)
We are seeking a motivated and creative Communications Assistant to support our organization’s outreach and engagement efforts. This role is ideal for youth interested in digital communications, content creation, health promotion, and community engagement within a non-profit environment. The Communications Assistant will work closely with staff to enhance our online presence, develop compelling promotional materials, and contribute to initiatives that support our mission.
This job will provide exposure to technology and digital skill development, including opportunities to develop introductory artificial intelligence skills.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Digital Communications & Website Management
- Update and maintain website content including news, events, program information, and resources.
- Assist with implementing accessibility and design improvements as needed.
Social Media Management
- Create, schedule, and publish posts across social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook).
- Support the development of social media campaigns aligned with organizational goals.
Content Creation
- Write and edit content for e-newsletter, website pages, and marketing materials.
- Produce visual content such as graphics, posters, and short videos using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Conduct basic research to support accurate, evidence-based content—particularly related to health promotion topics.
- Support the development of promotional material for programs, health promotion initiatives and fundraising events
Promotional Material Development
- Transfer and update brochures, fact sheets, infographics, and other outreach materials into Canva.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications.
- Assist with campaign planning and execution for events, programs, or awareness initiatives.
Health Promotion Support
- Contribute to the development of educational materials for community health initiatives.
- Support the planning and promotion of health-related campaigns, workshops, and events.
- Help translate health information into clear, accessible messages for diverse audiences.
General Support
- Attend team meetings and contribute creative ideas for outreach strategies.
- Assist with administrative communications tasks as needed.
- Work in collaboration with the Communications Committee and Community Team
Experience
Qualifications:
- Must be between the ages of 15-30 years old
- Experience in social media management and digital content creation, with strong writing, editing, and attention to detail
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Interest in public health, community engagement, or non-profit work, with knowledge of health equity principles (including social determinants of health) and a commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive practices (considered an asset)
- Currently enrolled in (or recent graduate of) Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Health Promotion, or a related field (considered an asset)
- Valid Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector screening (issued within the last 6 months)

Contract/Hours: 8 weeks, 35 hours per week
