Volunteer Appreciation

We want to take a moment to recognize our exercise volunteers – Louise, Betty, Vicki, Colleen, Phyllis, Pat, and Victoria – who have been delivering our Active Fit and Fun exercise program to members of our community for the past 4 years. Twice per week, our exercise volunteers lead safe, chair- and standing-based exercises for those ages 55 and older.

Since the pandemic, our volunteers have been able to offer this program through a virtual platform and have recently added an additional virtual exercise class, which is focused on balance and gentle movement. The time that these volunteers provide is invaluable and we would not be able to offer these free exercise programs without their continued support.

The feedback we receive from clients and also volunteer leaders is that these classes especially during this time have provided a space where everyone can come to feel a sense of belonging and connection with others in their community, while also maintaining their overall health.

“Exercising with the girls is something I look forward to every week.  I went to the Centre for a number of years and when COVID came I really missed it.  Hats off to Louise, Phyllis, Colleen, Betty and Vicky who every week give of their time to lead us.  Thanks girls.”

“Just a short note to say how much I enjoy the three weekly exercise classes.  I have participated in both “in person” and “virtual Zoom” classes for the past three years.  What great well structured programs they are, and how they have helped me with some mobility issues. Kudos to each and every one of the instructors  who volunteer their time to lead these classes.  All the instructors are  well informed on how each exercise is done safely, and what parts of the body joints and muscles it affects, with a little humour along the way. Thank you to a great volunteer group of ladies!”
